Duolingo Learn Many Languages for Free App Reviews

I m at the end of the Spanish course. I know Spanish words ( a fair number) but believe me I dont know Spanish. Ive been at this for 200 days. Im never really challenged except by the spelling. (You forgot a letter oh dear! It makes me want to scream) Challenge me, explain to me how to form sentences or give me much longer passages to translate. That I know, would not work as the health system is irrationally punitive. So punitive every lesson is really about learning how to spell words rather than learning how to put those words together. I am sad because theres nothing new to learn from this app. Its banal , its boring and now its frustrating with all the different ways the developers are trying to monetize. So while its a fine tool to learn a few words believe me you wont learn a language this way, you wont be continuously challenged or excited. Its the same thing over and over. Add some new features

This used to a really cool app, but now it sucks! You constantly have to watch adds, it does not work properly and there is no way to get in touch with them! My streak broke twice even though I practiced every single day. I reported it month ago, but no one bothered to do anything except taking my money to repair the streak. One has to wonder if theyre doing it deliberately to make more money!

Best language learning app hands down. Already learning German and Spanish and its going quite well!

I use Duolingo for Spanish. The club and community features make it easy for beginners to stay motivated. Considering its free, i cannot fault it. Just wish they would add the "clubs" option to the PC version too.

In spanish, every single time Im given a multiple choice question it says Im wrong even when I choose the right answer. Since the questions keep repeating themselves, it is impossible to keep streaks or maintain health when it will not let you move on, so Im deleting the app. Very frustrating!

This is an amazing app and Id like to think you can learn a language with it, but it stops you from using it if you make a certain number of errors per day. It seems like it makes more sense to encourage learning and using the app instead of penalizing people for making mistakes. Sure, you can pay money to unlock the app after mistakes have been made, but thats extremely annoying. Would prefer to have an option to pay to remove ads.

I love the set up & the flow of the game play. & the owl is the cutest most adorable coach evar! But, I do have to agree with others on the practicality of the different sentences they teach you. Sometime when I type a sentence into Google translate it says what I thought would be practical, but there are very few sentences and phrases that are taught the way it should be spoken. & I would really love for Korean & Mandarin to be added! Please & thank you! It really is a nice app! But its missing a star for falling a bit short. Also, after using the android version for a while I realized it is better: more encouraging and has option for when I cant speak AND cant listen. The iPhone is missing this option. I need it. :)

Microtransactions feel so out of place. If selling our voice data isnt paying the bills, at least offer subscriptions or something.

This app is better then any app Ive tried because its free no money! But I do have a few suggestions on the microphone recording. it needs to be more accurate I dont feel like Im saying the words right. And I also recommend creole languages like cape verdan creole,Haitian creole etc

The tips and notes need to be accessible through the app and the mobile website. Its completely ridiculous that this feature is not available. I am completely unable to figure out why I got something wrong unless Im at a desktop. This is unnecessarily inconvenient.

Please get rid of the health. Im tired of it. You guys are better than this.

Im so disappointed with the current version of this app. I really enjoyed learning Spanish thru this app previously and now Im attempting to learn Italian. With the new "health" option Im unable to use the app for more than 10 minutes.I attempted to watch an ad to improve my health and extend it so that I could practice for longer and it sent me to a download of a video game that I could not x out of after playing along video. The "health" chart and gems have destroyed this app. I dont mind watching an ad or having advertisements but all of it at once seems opportunistic to the degree of destroying what existed.

In the beginning Duolingo was an ok app use to learn a new language. Now they have added this new feature called the health bar, every time you make a mistake it takes off a whole bar, and if you have depleted all of your bars, itll end the current lesson and it doesnt let you start from the beginning, unless you wait 4-5 for one bar!!! Or pay for 350 gems replete the whole thing! Or do an exercise to get one bar, but each time the exercise is the same thing over and over again, it gets so repetitive. All in all this app is a waste time. Im so upset this feature makes the app unusable. They want you to use the app daily but you make a simple typing mistake and you have to wait 5 hours so complete your daily goal. Absolutely hate it!

Ive learned so much from this app since its really expanded my vocabulary, however I wished there was an option to learn Korean... I love the unique "chat bot" function because it really helps with practicing sentence structure and such...but I was really hoping for more Asian languages other than Japanese... Please consider adding korean to your curriculum ☺️ other than that, this app is a very fun and effective way of learning new languages FOR FREE. Thats crazy.

A fantastic way to learn almost any language quickly.

Overall, I really enjoy the app. Its really helped me learn and retain Spanish. However, I have a real issue with the updates. Every time theres an update, I have to basically start from the beginning, Ive lost my place, my gems, lingots (or whatever the point system now is), and its nearly impossible to sign back in. Please stop. Its really frustrating when Im trying to learn and it feel like Im being thwarted. Also, stop signing me out. A final suggestion: Arabic for English speakers.

Not perfect, but definitely worth incorporating into your daily practice as a beginner!

Overall its a good app I like being able to talk to the bots and the clubs push me to practice more. One thing that could be changed though, like sometimes it asks me to translate words I havent learned yet and its a waste of lives.
