Duolingo Learn Many Languages for Free App Reviews

Fun and effective. I love that in order to have enough health to move forward you have to practice the basics. It really makes sure you have a good grasp of what youve already learned before you get too deep. So well done!

Was excited when I heard about this app from a friend. Unfortunately, it is still lacking an Arabic for English speakers course. This is a language that is spoken by hundreds of millions and the religious language of over a billion people! Surprised and disappointed this is not included. I would like to see an Modern Standard Arabic course added at the least.

This app literally has everything. It is user-friendly, well-designed, and very fun to use. It has to be one of the highest rated applications on the App Store.

I do sometimes feel that I need supplemental material to really get all the nuances of the language but it is great for reinforcement and practice.

Great way to bone up on my French before a trip!

Several times I put or said the correct answer and it kept telling me I was wrong- very frustrating and Im removing the app!

Whether it helps or not..im having fun and learning something and honestly thats all that matters to me :3

This app is incredible especially being free. Ive started Spanish lessons and have progressed quickly and have had the language actually stick. To me, its much more effective than expensive language learning software. The app is well developed, has great user experience design and a wide array of useful features. The conversation bots are one of its greatest features as it gives users the opportunity to actually engage conversations. This is a winner if youre looking to learn a new language. There are a ton of languages to choose from which sets it apart from most learning systems. I, personally, havent run into any bugs or errors in the app. I have noticed that they have set up a very user friendly reporting system if such a case were to occur. You cant go wrong with Duolingo as its free, well developed, well maintained and the instruction is top notch. They do operate from donations but dont beg for them. If you miss a use streak, the app keeps track of your consecutive use, then it will send an occasional alert asking to donate to restore the streak. Which I dont find annoying because theyre offering a fine app for free. The work they have done on this is exceptional and is worth paying for.

So easy a child could use it

I love this app and use it often, but theres one option I wish it had. You see, it has the "I cant speak now" option, for when it asks you to repeat what the speaker says, but you cant talk at the moment; but, it doesnt have an "I cant listen now" option, for when you have to listen to what the speaker says and then type it in the line below. What if your phone needs to be silenced (for whatever reason)? My reason for needing that kind of option is because the most free time I get for using this app is when Im in bed at night with my husband. He needs to get to sleep earlier than I do, so I need to have my phone on mute. I know that using the other teaching methods isnt as good as listening to what the speaker says and typing it, but its better than nothing, right? Id use this app a WHOOOOOLE LOT more, if it was an option. Please consider adding it to your next update. Thank you so much for creating such a valuable and educational app and I look forward to seeing more of what this app can do! ??

It is a good way to pick up a language but lacks explanation which is frhstrating.

Very easy going and light app. Quick start and you can directly start your language training. If you dont know something, it will firstly translate and then explain what is what and why it was used. I recommend to everybody to improve language skills ?

Had used Duolingo a few years ago, so decided to try again on iPad for learning Ukrainian. First lesson was fine: "which one of these pictures is Dad" (with four pictures, one of a human male, with "Tato" underneath. Typical show you are word or translation, ask you to repeat it, etc. Now comes lesson 2: they show you a short string of words in Ukrainian, with maybe one or none of which youve been previously introduced to in an earlier lesson, and ask you to type the English translation. No pictures. Just unknown words, please translate. What? Oh, that word Ive not seen before means "aunt" or "honey". Maybe you guys shouldve shown us a picture of aunt or honey, or shown us the Ukrainian along with the English, prior to asking us to translate it. Stupidly frustrating. Poorly designed, poorly executed. Deleted the app. Better choices elsewhere.

What a great fun way to learn a language! The app teaches in so many different ways, audio, pictures, matching pairs... So much fun

This app is fantastic. Thank you for making such a huge volume of knowledge available to so many people for free.

The app is more for studying than learning. And there is a glitch where the speech questions never pick up what Im saying. I say it over and over again but it gets it wrong every time at says what I was trying to say was right. Extremely infuriating. Other than that great app.
