Duolingo Learn Many Languages for Free App Reviews

When I first began using this app (years ago) it was great. It focused on learning and it was fun to use. Fast forward today (as I started using it again for the past month) and wow have things changed for the worst! Constantly taking achieved skill bars away from users only discourages users from continuing to try. Yes users should practice what theyve learned but this should be done in a more encouraging way and less frustrating. All of the new changes are in place only to force users to buy gems SMH. Stop the greediness please and instead just charge $5 for your app or if you want to be greedier $9.99 annually & get rid of the garbage ads as well. Nothing wrong with sensibly monetizing but not to the point of it hindering the overall goal and vision of your product.

This app is helpful. I was about 50% fluent in Spanish when I decided to join. When I first got this app I was learning more Spanish & feeling increasingly comfortable speaking it. But there are issues. For one thing, our "skills" do not disappear as fast as you think. This app was supposed to make learning a new language a fun experience, but having to review "Weak Words" when you dont need to strengthen them makes it a CHORE. And its impossible to take a break when you want to; if I dont practice for 2 days Ill lose 7 skills. I spend so much time trying to convince Duolingo that I know a subject Ive already passed instead of using it to learn something new. Im either stuck in the same, boring, awful cycle or being pushed back. This app is just basic repetition, and Im growing tired of it. Edit : Thanks for finally adding a "Cant Listen Right Now" option.

I tried to learn Chinese instead of Spanish, but I cant go back to learning Spanish? PLEASE HELP!

Missed when this app was actually free. Now youre bombarded with ads unless you give them your money.

I use to love this app. I work in an industry where I use Spainsh a lot. I use to use duolingo to stay on top of it. Now it makes you pay for a mistake and wont allow any progression unless you pay

I have had Duolingo of couple years and I was glad to see it grow to what it is but something has change in the past couple months with this new update because now its horrible. This ad thing thats going on is annoying and I dont even want to do the exercise because of it. This thing with the heart isnt something new ( of course before it reset after every exercise and you didnt have to pay ? to get more life) but they took it out so people didnt feel discouraged if they ran out and now theyre bringing it back? I dont know whats going on at HQ but someone needs to get the head out of their ... and bring back the duolingo everyone actually enjoyed! (Yeah you want the business to be profitable but doing it this way is just driving people away)

Dear Duolingo, why cant we have the best of both worlds? I love the bots, layout, and new percent tracker in this version, and the master skill is nice too. BUT why did you bring back the hearts?! I liked it better when the progress bar set itself back a bit when you got something wrong. Also why cant we have the best of both worlds iOS and android. I love the android achievements. And you can actually pay to remove ads in android. But I wish by paying you received something more than just no ads. Anyways, Duolingo is one of my favorite apps, but this update is a little annoying, yet visually pleasing.

Every single time I use the Spanish "listen and type the transcription" lesson, it does not work, even if I have the answer 100% right. This runs down my health (which is a terrible ideas by the way) and makes it impossible for me to move forward in lessons or maintain my streak. I am deleting the app. (reporting the issue has not worked at all, and I have not been contacted about my issue, there is no help center or way to contact someone to fix my issue so this is my last resort)

I had taken a break for a while then redownloaded the app. Wow, so many changes. And not one for the better. I understand the need for an app to generate revenue and am not opposed to throwing $ every now and then to an app, but the methods now used renders the app useless. The time to regenerate is about 5x too long, and cost of gems is so ridiculous I would rather purchase a program. You would be better scrapping it all and placing ads or charging a one time language fee. I will try in another month or so to check for improvements, but in the meantime will look for a different app.

I used to love this app but the recent changes are annoying. I paid to buy the app without ads and now I have ads. I want to love this app but until my previous account is restored I simply cant! In the pursuit of $ the company has lost site of its real value...

Love this app it is an awesome way to learn a new language and they have many languages to choose from. Unfortunately the one i really want is Korean and is not available. Can we work on this for the next update please?????

I use this app everyday. Lately, I practice my deficient skills to be able to have enough life for new skills when I run out. I practiced 7 skills for a whopping one health bar, when it should have given me full health by then. Ridiculous.

This WAS the best language learning app. Now it is very limited, you can only make a few mistakes and then cant do anything anymore until the "health" is restored. SO AWFUL!! Return the app how it used to be PLEASE!!

Its a really good. You dont really have to pay for anything and its designed like a game. You have lives and other cool things.

This is honestly my favourite thing to do as a past time! I can finally talk to my uncle (my marriage) who is Mexican and I can tell he appreciates it a lot that I know how to speak his language!

I love the app but hate the lives. It just gets so frustrating.

Holy crap this app is going downhill. You get adds all the time and you get harassed to buy bloody gems is you lose your hearts. Im trying to keep doing my lesson and I get shot down because of the heart thingy. I know you gotta make a living but this is crazy.
