Love it!

Just started but love it so far. I have no complaints!

Good, but could use a couple more features

It would be even better if the mobile version included the lesson grammar rules that exist on the website. Right now Ill start a lesson, but have no idea what or why the correct answer is what it is until I go to the website and learn the grammar rules. Those are just too important to skip over. Second, I wish there was an option to use only typed responses instead of selecting the words in the boxes on the bottom. Sure, when Im using my phone I prefer the boxes because its too cumbersome to have to type it all out, but when on my iPad I actually prefer to type it all out. I find its more challenging to have to remember the right words instead of being presented with a short list of words. Consequently, I feel I learn faster when having to type it all out. (Also, they capitalize the first word in the sentence so you almost always know what the first word should be. I try my best not to look for this but its hard to ignore once you notice it.)

Easy learning experience

I decided open up and learn more languages (why not, life is short) and I came across duolingo. This app is amazing, and is helping me learn multiple languages a breeze. Obrigado ??

It was better before.

Telling me I can only get 4 things wrong then I cant learn anything new until my health refills is just dumb! Yes you can review old stuff to gain extra health but its so repetitive that it just becomes boring. I loved this app when I could learn this for fun. Giving me a health bar makes it like school again! Please update the things that are broken not the good features! You are ruining your own app!

A good app goes bad

Micro-transactional education is a terrible idea. The whole duolingo experience is no longer geared toward instruction but monetization. Ads, a pay-to-learn "health" tracker, and poor teaching in order to facilitate mistakes all show a disappointing change in priorities for duolingo.

Dont rely only on this app to learn Spanish.

I downloaded this app because of a friend. That was a year ago. I admit I stopped playing & practicing Duolingo for a while during the school year, since times did began to be tough. Now that I have an abundant number of free days on my plate. Ive used Duolingo to help out with my Spanish learning experience. I wouldnt recommend this app completely if youre really trying to learn Spanish. Theres a difference from learning Spanish on your phone & actually learning it while writing. A big difference. Sure Rosetta Stone may be better, but thats time consuming as well. If you really would like to learn Spanish, especially for early high school students in New York State..Go to Barnes & nobles & Buy a Barrons mastering Spanish grammar. Sure Duolingo has taught a few things, but entirely relying on Duolingo for a full Spanish learning experience isnt the best option, for me personally, and for the people Ive talked to thats used Duolingo.

Perfect

Actually very good at teaching the basics in bite sized portions. Love the app. Genuinely a great tool.

Almost perfect!

This app is so fun and easy to use, Ive learned so much in the short time that Ive used it and Spanish class is way easier for me now. It lets you set a reasonable goal that gives you motivation to practice for at least a few minutes every day. However! There are a lot of really annoying aspects of this app that make it frustrating and bothersome. First of all, the concept of health is fine - it motivates you to go back and refresh old skills if youre going too fast and messing up on new ones. However it takes ridiculously long to recover because they need a way to get you to watch ads. Also theres only five lives, which is also ridiculous - mistakes happen and learning new skills takes time and patience, so five mistakes shouldnt set you hours behind on practice. Another annoying thing is how fast you lose skill bars - its insane! Time I could use learning new skills is wasted "strengthening" ones I already know. Clearly there are a few issues, but overall I love this app. I use it every day and my Spanish has gotten so much stronger because of it. Would highly recommend to anyone, although Id encourage an update as well!

Not a bad app at all

This will help with your learning Spanish very well. You go at your own pace. Very good and better than many that cost money. This gives you the basics very well. Fun to do.

Very nice , I like it

Very nice app, but please Add chatting face to face

Really liked this app until....

I was making good progress on learning Spanish until I reached day 4 and suddenly this crazy "Health" feature showed up. Dont make mistakes or it stops your progress unless you go back and work on stuff you already know OR you buy your way out of the blockage. That is really what they want. They want you to pay. At one level I understand they want to make money. (The advertisement money must not be good enough) On another lever, there are other free apps out there.

Thank you

When I got this I started playing it right away it was fun and all but it was not as fun as I expected it is still a great app and I am not saying people shouldnt get it I am just giving them a heads up, also you dont just learn Spanish you learn Japanese,English,British and more

Simple and Accessible

Ive been using Duolingo for the better part of a week. Reviewing new words and practicing out loud helps. I need to use a Spanish keyboard to answer questions more correctly but other than that Im enjoying this way of learning on my own when I have time. Lessons are brief and reinforce learning multiple ways.

Update needed

This app used to be amazing, however the addition of health bars makes it intimidating for people wanting to learn a new language. In addition, I have run into the problem where lessons dont actually teach me words, but instead assume I already know them, when in fact they have not been covered in any lesson. As a result, when I get these words incorrect (as I was never taught them) I deplete my health bar and cannot complete the lesson. Please fix this asap.

LIVES

Everything is good but the lives now Im paying and waiting to learn a language and it expects me to know something after I just saw it like people forget and now we are losing lives over it

Totally awesome

Still using it almost daily. Finally - pay version to get rid of ads and downloading for subway learning. ------- Best language app out of all of them. Fun and educational.

Wowza

What an awesome app I am off and running. Soon Ill be having conversations in French without hesitation

Health bar

The app used to be good before the bar

Buggy and Less Fun

I placed a 100 gem wager about 5-6 weeks ago. The app has not recognized a single day of progress towards that goal. I havent missed a day, yet it remains at "0 of 7". The whole gem conversion and moneyMoneyMONEY PAY US MONEYMONEYMONEY around every corner is both lame and intrusive. This used to be so fun. I just wish I had saved an older version of the app with my happy owl friend and his jaunty outfits. So sad.

I dont like the updates.

I originally gave this app 5 stars, but the longer Ive had it and the more updates it goes through..the less Ive enjoyed it. Everyday that you get on, you have to practice old skills or the bars continue to decrease. If I took the time to practice each skill enough to fill the bars, I would have to spend hours on the app. I can barely continue learning new skills because I have to keep practicing the old ones over and over again. I also dont like the ads and how now you have to press the top left hand "x" repeatedly to finally get the ad to go away.
